Ph.D. — Software Engineer & Mathematician

Breanne
Tippings

I build performant software at the intersection of mathematics and the real world — from real-time computer vision and 3D simulation to the businesses and tools I design and ship myself. Before software, I earned a Ph.D. in mathematics and spent six years teaching, work I still carry into everything I make.

About

I’m a software engineer and mathematics researcher. My career has spanned real-time AR/VR, computer vision, and 3D simulation .

Alongside my engineering work I’ve founded Noetherian Studios, developed a mobile language-learning app, and spent over a decade teaching and tutoring mathematics at every level from elementary school to Ph.D. qualifying exams.

I care about rigor, clear abstractions, and software that’s a pleasure to use — and I like owning problems end to end.

Experience

2025 — Present
Independent

Founder & Game Developer / Noetherian Studios

My own software and game studio, where I design and ship projects end to end — from engine work to art direction to release.

  • Designed, built, and released OVC — a game developed in Unity.
  • Handle every layer of production: gameplay programming, systems design, and the studio's website.
  • Own the full pipeline from prototype to published title.

Austin, TX

Senior AR/VR Software Engineer / Futurewei

Built software for virtual reality platforms that turns live user video into real-time model animation for virtual conferencing and spatial interaction.

  • Designed proprietary inverse-kinematics algorithms converting 3D landmark locations into render-agnostic data formats.
  • Profiled, optimized, and debugged existing solutions — translating and refactoring entire projects from C#/Python to C++.
  • Introduced agile methodologies and CI/CD tooling, drastically increasing team iteration speed and platform stability.
  • Reduced data-gathering costs by building software that generates on-demand datasets for computer-vision ML training.

2020 — 2023
Austin, TX

Software Developer & Team Lead / Clothing Tech

Led the body-scanner team and delivered software across 3D CAD, multi-camera imaging, and finite element analysis with millimeter-level precision.

  • Built non-linear parametric CAD algorithms enabling complex geometric reshaping of garments from designer input.
  • Developed and analyzed a proprietary real-time cloth physics engine in C++, C#, and Python.
  • Achieved micron-level camera-array calibration coupling AICON photogrammetry with Brown–Conrady distortion models.
  • Served as the internal mathematics and physics consultant and streamlined the team's hiring process.

Research Associate & Lecturer / University of Arizona

Doctoral research combining pure mathematics with computer modeling to solve a long-standing open problem in analysis and combinatorics.

  • Sole lecturer for 12 graduate & undergraduate courses; ranked in the top 10% of instructors university-wide.
  • Published research using a dynamical-systems approach to solve counting problems on graphs and labeled trees.
  • Repeatedly invited as a special-session speaker at the Joint Mathematics Meetings and math-physics seminars.
  • Designed curriculum for an upper-division linear algebra course and led analysis qualifying-exam preparation.
